The Welsh Government’s legislative powers do not extend to regulating vehicle emissions. However, we support the use of challenging new vehicle standards to reduce emissions. Encouraging a shift from an overreliance on the private car to more sustainable modes of transport, such as walking, cycling and public transport, is a key element of the Welsh Government’s policy approach on this matter. Furthermore, our low-carbon delivery plan 2019 sets out our approach to reducing the carbon footprint of buses, taxis and private-hire vehicles to zero emissions by 2028, alongside increasing the proportion of vehicles that are electric and ultra-low emission.
